Australia and Indonesia Celebrate Progress on Inclusive Infrastructure and Engagement with Civil Society

Jonathan Gilbert from the Australian Embassy joined Bappenas, MPW, local leaders, and CSOs to celebrate the achievements of the GESIT program in promoting gender equality and social inclusion in infrastructure.

Jonathan Gilbert, Minister Counsellor for Economic, Investment and Infrastructure at the Australian Embassy in Jakarta, joined Ikhwan Hakim - Director for Housing and Settlement Infrastructure, Bappenas, K.M. Arsyad - Senior Adviser to the Minister of MPW, local government leaders and civil society organisation representatives to celebrate the achievements of the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion in Infrastructure (GESIT) program.

Delivered through KIAT, GESIT has strengthened engagement between civil society and government to ensure infrastructure serves all users, including women and people with disabilities. The program has trained more than 900 women and people with disabilities to support their participation in a more inclusive infrastructure workforce and has supported the issuance of 68 local regulations that integrate inclusive planning, budgeting, and implementation, particularly in the transport, water, and sanitation sectors.
