Reflecting on GESIT Lessons to Advance Inclusive Infrastructure

Representatives from diverse national civil society organisations and Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) joined KIAT to reflect on lessons learned from GESIT and its sustainable impact.

On 7 November 2025, KIAT hosted a sharing session in Jakarta to reflect on insights and good practices emerging from KIAT’s Gender Equality and Social Inclusion in Infrastructure (GESIT) activity. The session provided reflections for national civil society organisations and Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) to examine how evidence from GESIT implementation can continue to inform inclusive infrastructure advocacy and practice.

Opening remarks were delivered by Rebecca Valentine, Counsellor for Climate and Infrastructure at the Australian Embassy, Jakarta, underscoring the value of translating lessons into sustained policy engagement and practical action to address barriers faced by women and persons with disabilities in the infrastructure sector. Participants discussed key takeaways from GESIT, including strategies for strengthening partnerships between civil society, government institutions, and the private sector; promoting inclusive employment pathways; and using evidence to support advocacy for more inclusive infrastructure policies.
