Strengthening Disability Leadership for Inclusive, Sustainable Infrastructure

KIAT, together with the national stakeholders and person with disability's champions discussed inclusive infrastructure practice and drawed example from KIAT supported initiative related to it.

To mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPWD), KIAT hosted a commemorative event under the theme ’Strengthening Disability Leadership for Inclusive, Sustainable Infrastructure.’ The event brought together representatives from government institutions and OPDs to recognise the leadership and contributions of persons with disabilities in advancing inclusive infrastructure policy and practice.

The event was officially opened by Natalie Mendelsohn, Counsellor for Climate, Infrastructure and Green Growth at the Australian Embassy and Jonna Aman Damanik, Commissioner of the Komisi Nasional Disabilitas (KND). Opening remarks highlighted the importance of disability leadership in shaping inclusive infrastructure systems and aligning national development priorities with accessibility, equity and human rights.

A panel discussion featured Maryam Ramadani from Himpunan Wanita Disabilitas Indonesia (HWDI) Wonosobo and M. Aris from Difabel Slawi Mandiri (DSM) Tegal, exploring examples of how persons with disabilities have exercised their leadership in influencing local infrastructure policy and service delivery. Examples included inclusive road and public facilities, accessible water and sanitation services, and how these experiences contribute to strengthening inclusive infrastructure frameworks at the national level.
